The Maryland Terrapins played host to over 20 NCLL teams in College Park this past weekend for the 2019 Beltway Bash. The annual 3 day tournament featured teams from as far away as Michigan, Vermont and New Jersey.
The Bash is split into 2 conferences, D1 and D2, with round robin games played late Friday and from 8AM to 10PM on Saturday. The playoff round begins bright and early on Sunday with the championship for both brackets taking place at 12:30 Sunday afternoon.
Michigan made the most of their 11 hour trek by scoring 2 major wins in the D1 bracket on Saturday, one against Chesapeake Conference powerhouse Salisbury, and a dramatic 7-6 OT win over Fordham.
Maryland and JMU picked up 3 wins on the day, with the Terps winning their 3 games by a combined score of 31-6. The Dukes were also impressive, downing a hot Rutgers team 7-3 and defeating a solid Vermont squad by 2. Cortland looked strong as well, picking up 2 wins before dropping a 9-5 decision to a tough Fordham squad.
The D2 bracket saw Lynchburg, Rowan and West Chester all going 3-0 on the day. West Chester racked up an impressive 28-3 goal differential in its 3 wins, while Rowan allowed only a single goal in their 3 wins.
Niagra should have received some sort of trophy for traveling as far as they did just have 1 game canceled and their other 2 games scheduled against Rowan and WCU.
With the preliminary games warped up, Maryland and JMU received first round byes, while Michigan, Vermont and Rutgers all made the 9AM quarterfinal rounds. Rowan and West Chester were the top seeds for D2, with Lynchburg playing Catholic and VMI taking on the Maryland B squad early Sunday.
