SUNY Cortland kicked off their 2020 season with a strong showing this past weekend at home versus the RIT Tigers and the Oswego Lakers.
In the first game of the day, Cortland used a 5 goal run to turn a 3-3 tie into an 8-4 lead late in the second half versus RIT. The Tigers would rally in the 4th, scoring 3 goals against the Dragons but were unable to take the lead, falling 9-7.
Caleb Drake lead RIT with 2 goals. Alex Manos, Justin Connolly, Kevin Shutt, Justin Ross and Conor Siebel scored the remaining goals for RIT. Chris Kenny and Jon Faulkner combined for 4 goals for Cortland.
Cortland defeated Oswego, 11-5 in game number 2 on the day, moving the Dragons to 2-0 on the season. Freshmen Alex Wenzler scored his first collegiate goal vs the Lakers, while Cortland netminder Wesley Cutler made 10 saves in goal.
The Dragons will host Cornell on March 6th.
In the final game of the day, RIT defeated Oswego 7-4. The win moves the Tigers to 2-1 on the season, which opened with a 19-2 win over St. Bonaventure back on February 19th. RIT will host Brockport on April 5th.
Oswego, (0-2) will travel to Empire Conference foe Albany, on March 8th.
