As Citadel slowly recovered from their long ride from VMI the previous evening, the gap closed. The five goal lead dwindled to two goals by the half at 7-5.
High Point widened the margin back to three on a goal by Brian Kelly at the start of the third period. Shortly after that, Tyler Rising got a pass from Connor Jones on defense, sprinted the length of the field and buried a high shot past the Bulldog netminder.
Citadel never threatened after that.
Andrew Keating played well in the goal for High Point and his defense was solid throughout. The defensive midfield also played solid throughout.
Offensively, the Panthers were led by Brian Kelly and Parker Bledsoe, whop kept the pressure on Citadel all afternoon. High Point maintained a strong balance on offense, getting goals from multiple players and assisting on half of their tallies.
As the game ended the skies opened up, but the Panthers left the field wet, but satisfied with their strong win against a strong opponent.
