Providence Hands UMass First Loss Of The Season

The top ranked Providence Friars remain unbeaten in Division II play, after a hard fought 8-4 win over the visiting Minutemen from UMass.

With an unblemished record of 5-0, UMass entered this past weekend match up in Rhode Island owning the #11 spot in our All Pro Sports weekly rankings. A strong showing last weekend, with wins over Quinnipiac, ULowell, Bryant and a thrilling 8-7 won over Albany, had the Minutemen poised to make the jump into the DII top 10.

The Friars we looking to rebound after their 7-6 loss to D1 foe Fairfield. Prior to the loss to the Stags, Providence had outscored opponents by an average of 6 goals per game and had scored 48 goals in its last 4 games.

Jack Cahill lead the Friars on offense notching 2 goals, while Ryan Gayman and Maverick Woods chipped in with a goal a piece.

Providence will host the Sleeping Giants of Quinnipiac next weekend for its final game of the regular season. The Minutemen will face a huge contest next week as they travel to Fairfield to take on the 4th ranked Stags, who are currently 8-0 in Division I play.
