The topped ranked Providence Friars defeated the West Chester Golden Rams 12-9, to capture the NCLL Division 2 National Championship for the first time in club history.
Senior Jack Cahill, who was moved to attack from midfield after pulling a hamstring in the Friars semi-final win over Kutztown, lead all Providence with 4 goals and 1 assist. Peter Sullivan and Teddy Allen added 2 goals, while Jack Ward added a goal for the Friars as well.
The Rams, who’s furious 4th quarter comeback simply ran out with the game clock, was lead by Jerry Ricardo’s 2 goal performance. Austin Sensenig and Matt Smith added a goal and assist each for West Chester, with Ty Thornton and Robert Amanto both scoring a goal.
The championship win caps off an amazing 10-1 season for Providence, who outscored their 3 tournament opponents by a combined score of 45-21.The ’17 D2 National Champion Rams finish the 2019 season with an impressive 12-4 record. West Chester was eliminated in the 2018 Final Four by RIT.
